I think you are saying you filled 1.6 gig and then erased something, but the space still shows as used. Is that correct?
What are you using to view the card? If you use fileZ to view the card on the Treo is the erased item still there? How big was the erased item? What machine did you use to erase the item?
A 2 gig card may only have 1.6 or so usable.

I was using my mac to view the files(music, and small movies) I erased the files on my mac using finder. A 2g sd card has 1.8g of usable file space so that cant be it. Reason why i say that is becuase I erased all the file and only had 73mb of space left on the sd card. Again thats after i removed ALL the music and movies

Have you tried reformatting the card?

Yes I did and I just will not place any of that stuff on my card, but I think FileZ is able to delete it from the card while in the Treo, so Ill give that a try!

2gig SD card problem and Treo 700p
I've been having the same problem. I've searched several web resources and have yet to find a clear-cut answer.
Yes, I can reformat the card and recover the trapped memory, but that is just a crude workaround, and not fixing the underlying problem.
Other features of the problem:
1. Pressing the HOME button to examine the card contents shows an empty card, even when it has data that other apps clearly are using (e.g. pocket tunes uses the MP3 files present, photos can be viewed and new ones added with the camera)
2. In pTunes, files cannot be deleted properly. The workaround here is to give the delete command, then when the message occurs saying "file cannot be deleted", remove and reinsert the card. That deletes it from the list in pTunes, but it doesn't free up the memory accessible to the Treo.
3. I suspect pTunes may play some role in this problem.
4. I have a number of other apps installed: I wonder about Butler, McPhling, ...
