    Default How Do I ?

Hi all, Im new to the treo 750v , just replaced my imate pda2k with the treo and there are some apps that I want to install ( google maps etc ) but Im not sure what to do with the .prc file. Any help inlightening me on installing worthwhile apps would be greatly appreciated.

Partly depends on the OS you are using. If Win XP or MacOS, then open Quick Install and copy or move the .prc file into that program. You can choose to have the .prc install into the Handheld or the SD Card, if you have one installed. A few programs won't work from the SD Card, but with most you'll just experience a slight delay as the program is accessed.

The next sync will install the .prc to the preferred location.

If you're running Vista, Quick Install doesn't work - but you can do right-click > Send to...> Palm Handheld device in that case. This will only install directly to the device and not the SD card though.

Right click also should be available to you in XP (and maybe MacOS), while you can also use a SD card reader/writer to move .prc files, too.

Assuming you're trying to hotsync by cable (rather than bluetooth or IR) are there any signs that the computer acknowledges the connection of the Palm (when you connect it to the hotsync cable) or the start of hotsync? A tone, repeated by the Palm?

If not, for whatever reason, your computer is not 'seeing' your Palm. Try this - click go to Hotsync (either in the Desktop or the icon in the bottom right notification area of your computer) and ensure the correct connection is checked - in my case, Local USB.

While there, also ensure that in Setup > General that the radio button next to 'Always available' is set.
Also, while in Hotsync, open Custom and ensure the conduits that you want to sync are set correctly. If you change any of them from the current setting, ensure you click the 'set as default' mode when you change the setting.

Reboot if any of these changes were done and try again.

Still nothing? Hmmm. Then tempted to say try a uninstall / reinstall of Desktop and see if that gets all the ducks in a row.

Is Hotsync running in your tray?
