Intro Screen

I just switched from windows mobile to the palm 700p...I like it much better but I miss the first screen on the 700w that had the time date messages etc. Is there a third party that makes anything similar to that for the Palm System.

I agree; that's a nice feature of WME.
There are a bunch of 3rd party apps that can present you with your day's agenda. Some are freestanding, and others are features or plug-ins of launcher apps like ZLauncher or kLauncher. Go to palm software sites like Et.com, Palmgear.com, or Handango.com, search for "today" and see what you come up with. Here's one for starters.

I actually don't use it, but it seems pretty stable.
I have ZLauncher which has an OK Today plug-in.
I don't know if you know about this, but the Treo has a modicum of this function on its own: launch the Phone application, go to Menu > Options > General Preferences... and check Show Calendar Event. As you'll see, it's only one line that shows the current event or, if there is no current event, the next event. No tasks or anything else. I use the option (why not?) but obviously something more robust is needed if you want a real rundown of the day's stuff.

I too switched from the WME and liked the Today screen. I downloaded the above mentioned program, but I don't see an installer or .exe file in the group. I apologize for my ignorance, but how do I install? Do I simply add these files via hotsync? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Exactly. Install the .prc file via hot sync. You can always add skins (custom looks) later.
