I use GroupTextMessaging. I have found it reliable for a group of about 12. I read somewhere, maybe here, about a guy who said he was a promoter for a Rock Band. He used it to send out to about 300 people at a time to announce dates for where his group would be appearing next. I have one group set up, and have not ever really changed anything since I installed it. I have found it to be reliable to get a quick text out to several people at once . .

I found this archived thread doing a google search. It appears that these guys thought they were having some CDMA issues, and suddenly they weren't anymore. . .

It sounds as if they were successfully using GroupTextMessenger on Sprint networks . .
Also there is another one within that thread that isn't free but it does sound like its dependant on a GSM network . .
HOpe this helps . .

OK...
I know the GroupTextMessaging thing doesn't work for me.
I tried the favorites button trick too... but I had the phone numbers on separate lines - so I'll retry that separating them with a comma instead. When I tried the favorites thing - it only sent the message to the last entry (IIRC)... and I was still getting error messages back at my phone for the next day. Double Ugh.
So it does appear that there is some difference between the CDMA and GSM treos when it comes to this. I'm hoping our buddy here that is trying to create the program is doing it for CDMA.

Also... Stillrockin....
I wonder how many contacts they put into GroupTextMessaging? I'm guessing that thing might work for me too if I only sent 7.
(sorry to double respond)

FWIW, I just checked and I have 11 entries total. Some are email addeys and others are mobile numbers. I have a very specific implementation on how I use this app. We get booking requests that come through our web site. When they do, it emails me the details. From my Treo, I send out the group Text asking everyone to get back to me asap, to let me know their availability. I usually have the promotor an answer within 30 minutes . . .

not sure if this won't have the same issues as the group text prog but may be worth a try.
if you set up an entry in your contacts as "group" or whatever and within that enter all the cell numbers you need under ONE cell entry (separate each by carriage return/enter button). then when you make new sms, select lookup in contacts, "group" and it puts all the numbers in.
see what you think.

Been using GroupTextMessaging for about 6 months now - works GREAT. Same issue w/ needing to add my own # to get a copy, but everyone seems to receive fine. Largest group I made was about 75-80 phone numbers. I use it all the time, have several prepared lists (Family, New Years Party People, etc) so I can just click the list and then go straight to composing the message for the list. Never had any other problems with it. Running a Treo 650 crammed with programs. Note that I DO have GTM in the phone's main memory, not on an SD card.

How come the Select Button (midlle of the 5-way) doesn't work on GroupTextMessaging?
