    Default important question

i currently have a regular cellphone with verizon service. im in the second year of my two year contract, but now i want to buy a treo and get the PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice Bundlessm Core Choice plan. a) can i buy a treo from like ebay and will verizon hook that up with their service? and b) can i just switch to a different plan, namely the voice and data for the treo, without being considered in breach of my contract with verizon, since im switching to a higher plan?

Please let me know. Thanks everyone.

    Default switching verizon plans

I 'believe' that if you switch plans you will automatically sign up for another year of service. Last year they offered me more minutes at the same rate - of course I said yes, but found out that my contract had been extended. This does not affect your discount on a phone every two years.

I just purchased a 650 thru ebay and will be calling later this week. I'll let you know what happens - anyone done it already?

I called Verizon yesterday and asked that very question. Their response was, so long as the model is compatible with the Verizon system, you will be charged a minimal programing fee of 20 bucks or so.

I don't know about verizon but I bought my 650 trough ebay and I just call cingular to get the unlimited net package that's like an add-on to my regular minutes package, so I did not have to extend my contract to do it.

By the way the phone i bougth was from cingular so I did not have to unlock it, simply put the smartchip in and "presto"

    Default important question - answered

I received my 650 (purchased on ebay) and was able to activate it on the Verizon network. I was not able to do it online or through the automated phone system, I actually had to talk to someone (which is usually a good experience with Verizon). I signed up - no problem, the 'new' phone did not alter my existing plan. I also signed up for the $25 for 10M data plan.

I'm up and running and liking my Treo. Just have to find the right combination of s/w so that I'm not crashing - getting better.

    Bob-
Congrats on the new Treo. Just watch your data plan and be sure not to go over. The fees can really pile up if you go over.
