"Jumps" to internet???
Verizon tells me my Treo will "jump" to the internet without my telling it to or even knowing about it, and this is why I need a data package. For the foreseeable future, I only plan to use the phone, the organizer, and the camera — at this point, I don't want or need the e-mail or internet access. How do I prevent this unauthorized "jumping"?

Sounds like a creative sales rep. If you don't have a data plan, where's it going to jump to? Kind of like dialing on a disconnected phone.
When I bought mine all I wanted was not to have to carry a Palm unit and a cell phone. I decided to try out the data plan to see if I'd like it. So far, I do.
You should be able to use yours just fine without phantom internet access. Enjoy!
Typos are there for those that look for them. I try to do something for everybody.

only thing that will make that "jump" is going to be wireless sync, if you have it set up to check for new mail.

I was under the impression that if you don't have the data plan you can still get onto the internet and pay by the the KB.

Let me tell you from 1st hand experience. I too did not plan on using the email/internet thing. If you dont get a data plan it operates as pay per use. I used it 3 times. My billing also showed more than a few instances when it "jumped" onto the internet without me doing it. Long story short: I recieved a bill for $88 on top of my regular calling plan. Anyways, Verizon was cool about it and took care of the $88.
I ditched the 700w 3 days after i got it. Poooooor reception. But am on the forum again to see if there have been any improvements. I really did love the phone if it wasnt for ppoor reception i would have kept it.

Jumping to internet?
I noticed the thread about the jumping to internet and one user having it do that a few times on own? Anyone else ever have that happen? If so why? I did not purchase the unlimited internet plan when they sold me my 700p on this past Friday, they seemed a bit surprised but did not get it for that. Another 40 bucks amonth just is not worth it to me at moment, I prefer to do on my own computers as i get too much email because of website I run.
Just curious if any other Verizon users ever had this happen or do you have to do other things to have the Treo jump (like use the pay as you go a few times first?).
I have generally been happy with verizon, only weirdness (on my old Kyocera Palm last month) was I was in some out of network area and got some roaming fees for first time in many years with verizon, but do not want to have this internet jumping ever happen either unless I choose to do it.

my verizon 650 has the VZWwireless Sync turned on by default. when i turned it off, the mysterious "Jumps" magically stopped occuring. I do have a data plan now, but it didn't turn on without my knowing when i told it not to.

I do not believe my Wireless Sync is even on. I looked at it and it has it in a setup mode where it has to download software to work and setup and warns it might cost me to do this. Maybe it is not on by default in my new 700p. So I guess I am safe in this mode.

First, let me say that I am on my 11th Treo in less than 2 years. All of them Verizon. Only 1 insurance replacement - the balance were replaced for the "quirks" that they developed over time (like refusing to hang up phone calls, restarting on their own, no sound, etc.). So, let me assure that there is not a VERIZON Treo out there that can "jump" to the internet using the Wireless Sync (intellisync) unless you have set up the wireless sync (about a ten minute process). The Wireless Sync does more than email - it also backs up your calendar, tasks, memos and contacts to a VZW Wireless Sync site. It's very handy and usually works well - once it is set up. If you use your browser - AT ALL - then you are using data. This includes getting weather, directions, music, downloads of applications, etc. via a browser. And having a data plan keeps you from being surprised at the time of the bill. Hope that helps
