Treo 700w with voice plan only - Treo Forums

I currently am on a family plan through verizon with voice only. Is it possible to call and get my phone changed but not upgrade to a data plan? I'm only looking to use the Treo to make calls with. Has anyone had luck with this? Thanks.

Sprint let me do that when I opted for some stupid reason to get a Nextel smart phone and at that time I went to voice only on my 600. The Nextel device was a mistake. Ben

I was just in the same situation where I just wanted the voice plan only. I just recently bought a 700p and activated the phone. Verizon automatically added the unlimited data plan into my account once I activated the treo but I just called the customer service and they took out the unlimited data plan and added the "per kilobyte plan," which has no monthly charge.

FYI, don't use the phone tutorial on the treo as it may access the web and I believe that's what happened to me as I was charged 320KB's of data without even knowing.

Yes, you can get just the voice only. Just make sure you check online afterwards because I asked for voice only and they signed me up for the data plan @ 44.99 a month!. I called them and had them remove it and it was done painlessly

No it is not possible. If you buy a smartphone from VZW you are required to purchase some type of data plan whether it be a data block or the 44.99 a month data plan (wish they would be more like ATT with their data!) When I got my Treo they told me that I had to purchase a data plan from them

with a data block, it does not cost anything. that is what I have on my phone. I just called VZW and told them that I want to block data on the phone and it was done. No charge. I just checked my plan and there is no fee. I of course cannot send or receive pictures/videos, but that is okay with me. Straight texting is what i do.

You're right Jim. I have the data block as well. I should have clarified that in my post above. I am glad I am not the only one with a treo and the data block. Some say it is like having the cake without the frosting....

I love the verizon coverage, but their data plan is just too expensive to justify it. If only I could get my work to pay for it. Hmmmmm......
