I've been with Verizon since 2003/2004 timeframe. Despite repeated billing screwups by them and more inconsistent information from their techs, the SMS and MMS policy is one of the few they seem to be trained well on. All the Customer Service trolls I've spoken to about PDA's sending picture messages and forwarding picture messages said this is charged as a PDA per KB useage fee. Only straight text messages are allowed on a PDA with the text messaging plans, no matter if you have picture messaging on your plan or not.
The best rate I have seen for a PDA phone is $24.99 a month for their bare minimum PDA data plan, which is significantly lower than their $29.99 unlimited plan. I am having the PDA connection service suspended on my upcoming 755P treo. Unlike the blackberry devices, a palm can be utilized without the data plan. (Just don't plan on using it for incoming picture messages or outgoingm equivalents). This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but it will at least prevent unwanted fees to start adding up on your cell bill. If your wife is able to stay under the data plans by just paying for kb useage, you may be better to just stick with the per kb rate.
Sprint may have a supposed better plan, but the incompetence and fraudulent billing that I experienced when they merged with Nextel drove me away, never to return. I can't get good enough coverage with AT&T, so Verizon or Alltel is all I have to choose from now. Only reason I stick with Verizon is I know how their system works now and how to resolve screwups in bills and network failures. |
