Update 1.04
My last treo 650 (pre-update) would freeze every so often while sending text messages. After the 1.04 update which Verizon claimed would help, the phone became a pda:mad: . It would restart everytime I tried to place a call.
My question is...What does the 1.04 update do in general? My replacement treo 650 has frozen once while messaging. I dont want to do the update if their isn't any significant reason to.

As far as I've heard the biggest thing is it frees up memory on your Treo. This is what Palm says from their web site:
What is the Treo 650 Updater 1.04?
New with version 1.04:
- Optimized memory handling with non-volatile file system improvements
- Improved user interface for multiple call scenarios
Also included from the previous version 1.03 (released July 2005):
- Latest version of Wireless Sync email application software
- Internal settings modification to allow correct access to Verizon Wireless roaming partner networks
I updated my Treo about 5 days ago and so far I'm not having any issues like others have.

Once reading alot of posts of people turning thier treos into PDAs, I installed this firmware update out of curiosity. I have gotten lucky with my Treo. I haven't seen any of the problems others have posted about. I have even dropped it many times, and I have accidentally kicked it once (was a reflex I put my foot out to soften the blow when I dropped it, and ended up kicking it). I still don't have any problems with it. Even though there were many steps to the updae, I completed it successfully. The Treo still performs the way it always has, and I haven't visually noticed any real improvements. If you are not having any major issues with your phone, then I don't see why you would want to update it. The benifits do not out weigh the risks. If your phone keeps locking up after sending messages, then just keep taking it back to the store it was purchased from. You put in your post that Verizon claimed that the firmware update would fix your problem. If that is true, then a verizon store should be willing to place the firmware update on the phone for you.
