Why have national Access?
After having national access for about 3 weeks i see that it is useless unless you wnat to check email or IM, neither of which is neccessary for me. I wanted to be able to use mapquest and just look for basic infomation using search engine. So far after trying about 30 addressses in both tucson and Charlotte, nc I have not had any of my request load except 1. What was strange is that you would think that the page wouldn't load as the direction were more detailed then other I tried on Mapquest computer version that wouldn't work on treo. Has this been the case for other? Are you able to access web pages and links and do basic searches? I cannot even download games from palm without recieving error message. You would think that there would be enough space availble for accessing palm games to use on a palm product. Does sprint offer better data access?
Thanks for your help

FWIW - I don't have any problems with pages loading using Cingular. But I suspect that this isn't a carrier issue. Perhaps there is something wrong with your browser configuration? Or maybe you are looking at sites that won't load properly on a mobile browser?

Thanks for the reply Christopher. It seems Verizon's solution to everthing is to do a hard reset or give up on the issue of data by saying that pda's were not meant to do searches. when I asked why their browser home page has mapquest and google search and plam downloads as options to use, they had no decent response. im stuck with verzion for now as we have family plan.

That is definitely not helpful. I'm sorry you're having these troubles.
Have you tried the mobile Google links? Check out this link http://mobile.google.com/
and see if any of those services might work better on your Treo. I hope you get this resolved. Being able to do searches and check maps on my Treo is something I would now have a hard time doing without.

National Access
I understand your frustration. If you can't use it fully why own it? As for my address searches I use Yahoo. I already have addresses saved so all I have to do is select them. I had a little trouble searching for a nursing home I wanted to visit (I'm a pastor). It took me about 15 minutes but I found the address by using google.com and then yahoo maps to get the directions. If you don't already try the optimized setting for the browser and turn off the images. This might help the downloading time. Also, try increasing your cache size and see if that helps. The only problem with that is that it takes up program/storage space on the Treo. Hope this helps. Maybe you can find the *sweet* combination that works for you.
Thanks Christopher for the Mobile Google links!
Mark.

Small world - I"m a pastor too (Lutheran). My wife gave me the Tom Tom Navigator 5 for my birthday, and it's done wonders for my efficiency making hospital calls, etc. (I live in a large metropolitan area and have a wonderful capacity for getting lost!) Pricey, but worth it if you can spare the bucks. Now, I need to figure out before Apr. 15 if I can deduct it ...

Coverage again does totally depend on where you are. That does suck that you are having a hard time getting the coverage. I guess EVDO would be even worse?
I've been using Verizon Wireless for over 10 years. It was common knowledge that Verizon had the best coverage and reception, at least here in Southern California.
So I never even second guessed that.
Well, this past weekend, Cingular gave me a phone as a loaner, got a Sprint from a friend, and used my Verizon Wireless phone and drove all over the area that I live in, and where I go on a daily basis. My point was to find dead spots and see which one worked the best.
To my total shock and disbelief, Verizon came out in dead last place! Cingular was clearly the best, then Sprit, then Verizon.
I could not find one location where Cingular had no service, Verizon and Sprint did have places.
So my point is to not listen to all the commercials and what "common" knowledge is, try doing the same test I did where you live. I have been paying a premium all these years to have this so called best coverage when in fact Cingular is much better and cheaper.
So you should see if Sprint and Cingular will lend you a phone to try out.

I have been a Verizon customer for nearly 6 years. Although I have had a few problems with them, in all I am pleased.
I recently was in both Alaska and Puerto Rico. I was the only person on our air crew that had service the entire time we were there.
I have NEVER had roaming charges show up on my bill in 6 years of using Verizon. I often will hit an area that is the Extended Network, but I could care less.
I do have some problems in buildings with the phone. The only other company I know of that does not have this issue is Sprint for some reason.
Verizon giving me 23% off my monthly bill is another good reason to stay. I get the discount because of my employer (government) and they offer the highest for Gov employees.

Now that I've had both Verizon and Cingular Treo 650's at the same time, they're pretty equal.
They both are better some places and worse some places. The only issue I found is that the Cingular Treo has a lot of background noise. I thought I had a defective treo but there are others with this same problem.
I'll be moving to Cingular next month only because Cingular now works at my house and Verizon doesn't. Cingular put up a cell site a block from me. 5 bars is nice.

Dude! I've been waiting for the TomTom to come down in price for a couple of years now. I hope you like your tomtom. When I was in england, many of the taxi drivers had one before most americans ever heard of them.
