Palm Management Discusses Financials, Palm Pre Plans

Palm today announced fiscal 3Q results and hosted a conference call for investors. Ed Colligan, CEO for Palm, fielded questions regarding the upcoming Palm Pre. The Pre is coming along great, said Colligan. The company is "polishing things up" and does not see "any showstoppers" to meeting the target release date. Palm still expects to release the Pre during the first half of 2009.

When asked about battery life, Colligan indicated the company tests all types of usage patterns and expects the Pre to have "great battery life".  Palm expects to use webOS on low and mid-tier products in the future. It seems clear the platform will expand beyond the Pre.

Palm showcased a number of developers at CES and confirmed they are working with popular Palm OS and web brands on development of apps for webOS. The company expects to release a beta SDK in the coming months, followed by a full release.

Colligan said the Pre has been the most focused launch he’s seen.
