How to do a hard reset on a Treo 680

Unlike other Palm Treo smartphones, the Treo 680 does not have a reset hole.

In order to perform a hard reset on the Treo 680, do the following:

Note: All of your data will be removed from the device. It is suggested that you perform a HotSync prior to executing a hard reset.

  • Remove back panel to expose the battery.
  • Hold the power button down on the Treo 680.
  • While holding the power button, remove the battery.
  • Keep holding the power button and place the battery back
  • The Palm Treo 680 will reboot and you should see a message asking if you would like to delete all data.
  • Release the power button and press UP on the 5-way navigator.

You will want to sync your Treo 680 to restore data.

You need to correct the 5th and 6th steps. When the Treo reboots, you need to release the power button before you can get the option to pree UP. Just my $0.02. THanks.

HOWEVER... Make sure your data is saved to your SIM card and not just your phone.

"BB" is right. You have to release the red power button before you get the message. TIP!!! Take your SIM card out BEFORE you do the hard reset and you wont lose that data. :D

I just tried this and I had to release the power button after the reboot BEFORE I got the message asking if I wanted to delete all data. Thank you for providing this information. I had a 680 sitting here for a while trying to find out how to reset it.

Dear "Jim" if you read the "note" at the top of the list, it says that you will lose all of your data. if you were to take the phone where you purchased it, they would have told you this, and performed the rest for you. :)

You may want to sunc your treo, thanks alot for the bad advice. You may want to reconfigure your sync method for the computer to override the phone and then sync your phone. Otherwise you loose all 250+ of your contacts and appointments, etc. Thanks for nothing!

Hi, I’m so happy about your advice. In every “official” Palm manual you find an instruction that doesn’t work. I found that so often the instructions for devices are very poor, perhaps the staffs are working under permanent time pressure. Thank you and have a good time, Gabriele (Germany)
