Palm Releases webOS 1.2.1, Fixes iTunes Sync and Exchange Issues

Palm today has released webOS 1.2.1 update. The update re-enables iTunes media sync and addresses issues plaguing Exchange users. Yesterday, we theorized that Palm might be ready to give up on media sync capabilities with iTunes based upon the product description(s) of the Pre and Pixi. Clearly, we were wrong and Palm appears committed to keeping this feature functional, despite Apple’s best efforts. The full changelog is available after the break. As per the usual, webOS 1.2.1 is available via the Updates app. webOS 1.2.1 weighs in at 38MB.

Feature changes to existing applications

Email

  • Resolved an issue where after installing the 1.2.0 webOS update some customers running Exchange 2007 could no longer synchronize with their Exchange account for Email, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks.

System

  • Resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (9.0.1).
  • Media sync now synchronizes photo albums, maintaining the album structure in the Photos app.
  • Media sync now allows for synchronizing photos without requiring the full-resolution originals. This provides faster display of high-quality full-screen images and enables users to store more photos on the phone.

Web

  • Resolved an issue where if a user tried to play streaming music or video, the media stream might drop out or have a long delay before starting.

Security

This release implements several security fixes, including the following:

  • Addresses a security issue encountered by webkit developers. This issue did not impact end users.

Individuals interested in contacting Palm to report suspected security issues can find more information at palm.com/security .

or text forwarding, or virtual voicemail, or copying wut someone said in a text convo to paste it, better timstamps in text, etc

  5. With this hack I would be forced to return the Pre.
If their corporate mgmt permits such deception via USB-ID’s, have little faith in the company as a whole.
They don’t have a software staff, they’re just a bunch of hackers.

  6. WAY TO STICK IT TO THE MAN! Palm is not a bunch of hackers. They have a programming staff that knows what the hell they are doing. I love it when people say they “hack” their pre because they take their phone to root. IDIOTS! if this wasn’t allowed then the information would not be public. 10 year palm vet here, love their company, love the direction, Palm pre is only the beginning to debunking the “apple legacy”. SCREW APPLE, nothing but a bunch of overated garbage.

  8. all of this is ok I guess but where is yahoo
synergy in messaging??? The whole messaging app is a joke without it..
    Damn

ps.. Fix the flash player issue as welll.

  9. Ok….why won’t songs purchased on itunes synce to the pre anyone else have this prob? What can I do?

  10. I am suffering with If you want syncing of your music just go buy missing sync for 40 bucks and your set. Palm should look to RIM for how to use the itunes xml data to setup a device bridge. It’s a great smartphone but really just hire some devs to build a client.
