Chi Mei Communication Systems To Assemble Palm Pre

According to a report in DigiTimes (via Brighthand), production of the Palm Pre could start as early as this month and will be handled by Taiwanese based Chi Mei Communication Systems, a company who is best known for producing handsets for Motorola. The Palm Pre was of course designed in California, but companies traditionally have their products assembled overseas.

The report indicates CMCS will source flexible printed circuit boards (FPCB) from fellow suppliers, with shipments expected to begin in March at the earliest. We’re still no closer to a release date for the Palm Pre, but this news is certainly encouraging.  FPCB makers are encouraged about demand in the smartphone market.
