Are Palm Pre Screen Protectors Necessary?

The Palm Pre is composed primarily of plastic and according to Geek.com (via GearDiary), this makes the screen more susceptible to scratches.  In our Palm Pre review, we babied the Pre, but will every day usage result in less than desirable results? If so, than perhaps owners should strongly consider grabbing a Palm Pre screen protector, shield or other method to prevent this from happening. The photo below was after only 5 days of usage and apparently happened from placing the Pre in his front pocket. We’re not sure if he carries spare change and/or perhaps razor blades it that pocket.

If you’re scoring at home, the iPhone’s glass screen fares very well against pocket combatants. How is your Palm Pre faring under normal wear and tear? Be careful out there!
