Verizon Palm Pre 2 Now Free On Contract

With the HP Pre 3 waiting in the wings, it’s increasingly difficult to move the Pre 2. As a result, HP Wireless is selling the Pre 2 for the price of free. You’ll need to give up 2 years of your wireless life, but you’ll also receive a free Touchstone, Vehicle Charger, Power Adapter and Palm Pre side case. All in all, a really nice bundle. Is it worth giving up on waiting for the Pre 3? That’s the question.

Verizon Makes HP Pre 2 Official, Priced at $149.99 After Rebate

We all knew it was coming, but Verizon today dropped the press release for the HP Pre 2, which features webOS 2.0. Full presser and specs available after the break. The HP Pre 2 is priced at $149.99 (after a $50 mail-in rebate) and a new 2-year agreement. It is available starting on February 17th. We have to say the price is a bit surprising. Both the Verizon iPhone and the HP Pre 2 will carry a $199.99 in-store price tag before rebates. This could spell tough sledding for the Pre 2.

It appears the Pre 2 has also shed the Palm name.

Palm Sales at Verizon

According to ITG Investment Research analyst Matthew Goodman, Google’s Android phones accounted for a whopping 80 percent of smartphone sales at Verizon Wireless in November. Of those Android sales, 46% were Droids. What’s striking about this chart is the decline of Palm webOS phones in November. This is troubling for a number of reasons. First off, it shows a brutal sales trend downward. Secondly, Palm and Verizon are partly to blame. Back in October, they announced the Palm Pre 2 would be coming, so no one considering a webOS phone is going to invest in a Palm Pre Plus when you know a much better device is right around the corner. That being said, it’s been almost 2 months since the Verizon Palm Pre 2 was announced. Verizon doesn’t have a release date. Couple this with the release of the multiple new Android phones and you have the chart below.

If there is any saving grace, Palm is now sharing the boat with RIM who also saw a decline.

Palm Pre 2 November 11th Release Date Rumor Smashed

A few weeks back, we reported on a rumor that the Palm Pre 2 would release on Verizon Wireless on November 11th. No better way to smash a rumor than to have the calendar move to November 11th without any new Palm devices on the shelves of our local Verizon Wireless store. PreCentral reported earlier this week Palm Pre 2 training is taking place, which is certainly a good sign. That original rumor also mentioned a slew of Android devices including the Droid Pro, so it’s partially correct, since pre-orders have started shipping for those devices. With an onslaught of Android devices, let’s hope that Verizon CSR’s do a better job pimping webOS to potential customers. Right now, Android phones like the Droid Pro have a bit of head start.

Palm Pre 2

As for when the Palm Pre 2 might hit shelves? Tough to say, but one would think sometime soon. We’ve yet to see a review of the production Palm Pre 2, which usually precedes any major launch. Stay tuned! It’s gotta be soon, no?

Palm Pre Plus Back At Verizon

The Palm Pre Plus had gone missing from Verizon’s website last week, prompting many to think that perhaps they were making room for the forthcoming Palm Pre 2. It looks as if the Palm Pre Plus is back online again at Verizon, so again we’re in a holding pattern waiting for the Pre 2. Still no official release date or reviews, but we have seen a rumored November 11th date. When we hear something, concrete or otherwise, we’ll pass it along.

Verizon Rebate Form Reveals Pre 2 and $100 Rebate

We’ve heard rumors of a November release date for the Palm Pre 2 and that’s look more likely by the day. Today the crew at Engadget have received a Verizon rebate form will a host of Android devices. They report that the Pre 2 is also in the system coupled with a $100 rebate. So, what do we think? $99 after rebate? Here’s yet another video preview of the Palm Pre 2 running on Verizon Wireless. With any luck, this will be on shelves in a few weeks.

Poll: US based Palm owners, who is your wireless carrier?

Today’s announcement of the Palm Pre 2 coming to Verizon is great news for those who prefer big red. Of course, it was only a few months ago that we saw Verizon release the Palm Pre Plus, which offered improvements over of the original Palm Pre. No doubt Verizon is the largest US wireless carrier, but how does that translate to the current install base of Palm fanatics, most of whom are desperate for an update from the original Palm Pre that dates back to June of 2009. Time to break out the polls and ask our US based readers, “Who is your current wireless provider?” Are you considering a jump to Verizon for the Palm Pre 2 or holding out hope for an updated model from either Sprint or AT&T.
